Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

I have run 5K throughout my life.  I just ran the Colder Boulder in 25:33 which is a PR for me.

I ran two half marathons this past summer and my fastest time was around 2:09:? (My chip had issues and I was given a gun time but not a chip time, but I know I finished under 2:10:00)

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run a marathon during the summer of 2010.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running for fitness and fun.  I would like to improve my pace to comfortably average 30 seconds faster then I run now.

Personal:

I am married and have three children.  I enjoy friends, piano, singing, crafting, and organizing/cleaning my home.

This morning I woke up two minutes before the alarm feeling rested and ready to go.  I love that feeling in the morning, it doesn't happen very often.  It was a lot warmer and nicer outside then I expected because apparently it is supposed to rain/snow today.  Right now, there is sunshine and blue skies.  The run was nice and slow but I did it all.

During my run I was thinking I really need to start swimming.  Running is the path of least resistance right now because I know how to do it, I get dressed and head out the door, simple.  Swimming is a bit scary because I don't really know how to swim.  I do know the basic strokes and how to swim but swimming laps, I have never done that before.  As running gets more uncomfortable I would like to make the transition into swimming to continue my fitness level.  I am writing all of this so that in the next few weeks I get myself to the pool and try it out.

I've been wanting to try swimming too as a means of cross training. I just don't want to put a bathing suit on in public! I need to do it though. It is a great form of exercise.

How far along are you now?

I love swimming. Since I have been running longer distances, I have gotten away from it in the summers, but I think I am going to try laps some mornings this summer. Maybe. Because I know what you mean about running being easy because it's just about putting on some clothes and walking outside. So convenient.

Swimming will keep you in great shape once running gets too uncomfortable! Do you have somewhere nearby that would be convenient for you?

The great thing about swimming when you're pregnant is you can just let your belly hang out and it doesn't matter. I used to love my maternity swimming suit.

Swimming will be a little more complicated for you than running, but you can just dart down to the rec center, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Incidentally, I didn't think it felt as cold this morning as the thermometer said it was. It was actually kind of a nice morning, surprisingly.

Happy morning not being tired & having a good distance on your run.

Swimming is great exercise- dont' worry that you haven't done laps before. It's the same as hanging in the pool, you just move forward in a straight line. You can choose to use any stroke, or none at all...dog paddle if you want :-)

Have a great week-end!

Good run Michelle! I've been doing a lot of swimming lately. I think it is definitely helping with my running so I'm pretty sure it will help you out as well. It does take a while to get comfortable with swimming laps but I'm sure you will get it down.

KP- I am 24 weeks now.

Tracy- I am lucky to have a rec center with a swimming pool about 2 miles from my house. It is just harder to get there then to step out the door.
